Stop The Bleed
Stop The Bleed – Training
"Stop The Bleed" is a nationwide campaign to empower individuals to act quickly and save lives. Bystanders can take simple steps to keep the injured person alive until appropriate medical care is available.
This FREE 1-hour course will teach you to recognize life-threatening bleeding and how to intervene quickly through three techniques: (1) how to apply direct pressure to a wound; (2) how to pack a wound to control bleeding; (3) how to correctly apply a tourniquet.
The training is open to all Caltech students, faculty, and staff. If you are unable to take the in person Stop the Bleed training, consider the free web-based training called You Are The Help Until Help Arrives which is available from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Caltech Campus Security offers the 1 hour Stop the Bleed training multiple times throughout the year. For the next available training offering, please check MyLearn from access.caltech.edu

Bleeding Control Kits
Campus AED cabinets now contain a bleeding control kit. A "BLEEDING CONTROL KIT INSIDE" sticker will identify the AED cabinets that have these supplies inside. The kits are meant for life-threatening bleeding due to trauma, not minor cuts, and scrapes. The individual Bleeding Control Kit provides lifesaving bleeding control equipment such as tourniquets, pressure dressings and gauze bandages. These kits can be used by our campus community during a medical emergency, but always call Campus Security at x5000 to send additional medical resources to your location and to report the incident.
